Glendowie Bowling Club Snippets – April-May
With April zooming by our Summer Season is rapidly coming to a close. There is just one more Open Triples scheduled on 29 April. We have now completed our Championships with the Mixed Pairs being held last weekend. Winners were Peter Wagner and Margaret MacColl with runners up Richard Atkinson-Moore and Florence Hing. Congratulations.
Meanwhile, across town Colin O’Brien was representing the Club at the Auckland Bowls Champ-of-Champs Men’s Singles. After two good wins he lost in the quarter finals to NZ reprentative and eventual winner Tony Grantham. Congratulations Colin.
Last week also saw the Veteran Singles held, postponed from February due to the Covid lockdowns. Winner was Margaret MacColl. Congratulations Margaret.
Earlier last week Glendowie was represented at the Eastern Classic played at St Heliers against teams from St Heliers, Kohimarama and Remuera and came away with the win with 72.5 match points and 160 ends. Great result!
Congratulations to all involved.

Our Winter season starts at the beginning of next month. We will hold Open Triples on every second Thursday starting 20 May. The Tuesday morning aggregate and the Thursday morning competitions on the alternate Thursdays will continue as usual. Also we have pairs tournaments scheduled for each Saturday.
Please note:
- All events will start at 10.00am.
- Whites or club uniforms are not required.
- All play will be on A-green. B-green is now closed for the winter.
- Check with Infoline (575 9383) if the weather looks doubtful.
- Sign up sheets will be in the Hub for the Open Triples and the Saturday events. Otherwise, please call Mike Hughes (021 0859 1112) if you want a game in the Open Triples by mid-day on the Tuesday preceding each tournament. For the Saturdays, call Peter Wagner (021 831 272) by 6.00pm Thursday.
Social Bowler Members. The Executive agreed at its last meeting that our Social Bowler members are very welcome to join us for our Saturday events through the winter as well as the Tuesday and Thursday competitions when there is no Open Triples. This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and to meet up with other Club members. Just sign up or call Peter – as above – for the Saturday events. You will be placed in teams and hopefully come to learn what a friendly Club we have.
For the Tuesday and Thursday events just call in between 9.00 and 9.30 or be at the Club by 9.30.
Clubhouse update. Those of you who have been to the Club over the last week will have seen that the new carpet has been laid and is looking great. We are also getting the flooring under the windows resealed and that should be completed in the next week or so. Thanks to Val for organising the carpet.
Annual General Meeting. This is scheduled for Sunday 13 June and, while that is a way off just yet, we need to start the process by calling for nominations for the positions of President, Secretary and Treasuer and members of the Executive. There will be a box placed by teh notice board in the Clubhouse for these to be placed in. Also we need any Notices of Motions that need to be circulated prior to the meeting and reports for inclusion in the notices to go out. Can these please be sent to Murray (gbcbowlz@xtra.co.nz) by the end of this month. The agenda and other supporting documents will be circulated by email or regular mail for those without email addresses during teh week 10 May. As usual our AGM will be followed by 2020-21 Season’s Prize Giving. If you hold any of the cups or throphies from last year can you please return them to the Club – just put them in the Match Room – by the end of the month. Thanks
